Superb frontispiece piece illustration by the renowned artist Arthur Hughes, as well as over 100 wonderful half-page illustrations by Hughes on nearly every page. Original brown endpapers. With a contemporary armorial bookplate of Oliver Brett with motto Vicimus on the inside cover of the book, and a smaller bookplate of Mary Elisa Beth Hudson on the facing free endpaper. Top of spine (.5 cm) neatly clipped, some edgewear, foxing to prelims. The scarce Christina Rossetti first edition of this title.
