[Hovey, Richard] ALS to Herbert Stone, Publisher of Stone & Kimball]

St. Johns Wood, London.

One page, 6 x 4 1/2 inches. Interesting letter from Richard Hovey (1864-1900), British poet who collaborated with Bliss Carman on three volumes for Copeland and Day, and member of the "Visionists," a Boston social club sharing common interests as artists, writers, etc. Written to Herbert Stone, publisher of Stone & Kimball in Chicago, from St. Johns, probably mid 1890's when they were both traveling in England and engaging in book publishing activities with John Lane & Co., and conveying some sense of urgencty: "It is very necessary that I should see you, and as soon as possible. I am laid up with hayfever, and must not go out unless absolutely necessary... Come up today, or tonight... even if it is late...If it is impossible, please come tomorrow morning before Twelve. In any case, unless you would get here for a letter, please reply at once... better if you telegraphed, so that I will know just when to expect you. Written from St. John's Wood, a popular London locality for writers. Two punch marks at top, folded once.
