First Edition Thus. Quarto. 10 1/2 x 8 1/2 inches. Superbly bound by The Booklovers Shop, successors to the Club Bindary, carrying with them the same binders and master finisher, Leon Maillard. Signed on lower front dentelle: "The Booklover's Shop, Cleveland." Importantly, signed on rear dentelle: "Hardy, Maillard, Pilon." A striking inlaid and intricately tooled binding consisting of a main center inset panel of Alighieri, with large inlaid morocco pieces of light brown, russet and gray-green. The rest of the binding has multiple gilt and light blue stamped ruling and one half-inch very detailed filigree concentric border. Spine with five raised bands, gilt lettering. Rear cover identical to front cover, but without the Alighieri image. Edges of binding with two closely laid gilt ruling across all edges. Top edges gilt, others uncut. A very pleasing and technically accomplished binding these masters. In fine condition.
