First edition. Original brown mauve cloth with black embossed ruling, gilt lettering on spine, cream endpapers. Frontispiece engraved portrait, 306pp. The anonymous editor (signed C.P." in prreface) was Coventry Patmore. Contains the 19 unpublished poems of Barry Cornwall, pseudoname for Bryan Waller Procter (1787-1874), an English poet widely considered to be an imitator of other Romantic poets. However, Procter received critical acclaim from Charles Lamb and inspired Alexander Pushkin to make some translations and imitations. A very good copy of a scarce book, with wear to corners and extremities of spine, both hinges cracked. Very clean internally.
