First Edition. 4∞. Original publisher's illustrated wrappers. Superb production featuring 100 illustrations on 48 heliogravure plates the Swiss photo pioneer F. Boissonnas (1858-1946) "was introduced to photography very early by his father (Antoine-Henri B., 1833-1889) and completed his training in Stuttgart and Budapest. The highly talented photographer took over his father's business which became very famous for its portraits and genre pictures and for the quality of the prints made with bromine oil, carbon paper and clay bath. Boissonna won many prizes and was already widely known when he was one of the official photographers of the 1896 National Exhibition in Geneva. He published over 50 books, and in 1919 founded Editions Boissonnas, which, however, drove him to ruin. A fine copy of an extremely scarce work.
