Offered here are two small watercolor and pen and ink drawings by Robert Cruikshank, ca. 1810-20, executed on the same piece of watercolor paper, signed Robert Cruikshank at lower right. The drawings may represent figures in an illustrated book, or a proposed one, but we have not had the opportunity to explore this possibility. Robert Cruikshank, or Isaac Robert Cruikshank formally, (1789 ñ 1856) was a caricaturist, illustrator, and portrait miniaturist, and brother of George Cruikshank, both sons of Isaac Cruikshank. Just like them, he holds importance as a pioneer in the history of early 19th Century comical illustration. Near fine.
