Zebriskie, with gilt borders and four onlaid circles on both covers, gilt spine and elaborate full morocco doublures consisting blue morocco with four onlaid flower motifs, gilt leaf patterns, etc. With autograph letter signed by Bret Harte laid in, 2 1/4 page letter from Bret Harte Thomas Woolner, original member of the Pre-Raphaelite Bortherhoon, written on Consulate of the United States of America, Glasgow letterhead dated July 29, 1884. "My dear Wooner, Thank you very heartily for a copy of "Silenuse," which I have only now found time to read at my ease. I'm charmed to have the old gentleman delivered to use ina cleaner and pleasanter fashion than I new him out of the books when I was a boy or where, in later years, I met him, in the fileds, in society... " etc. "... Only one thing is lacking: your autograph on the fly leaf..." etc.
