[DeVinne, Theodore L.] A Portrait of Theodore DeVinne Etched and Signed by Thomas Johnson, Exceedingly Scarce Way and Williams Issue

A very scarce folio size etching [23 x 17" paper, 9 x 7" image size], etched by Thomas Johnson and signed in pencil by Johnson, after a photograph by George C. Cox. This was advertised in November, 1895, in the Dial, and printed by Kimmel & Voigt in two editions, one of 200 on etching paper (this example), as well as 50 copies on Japan Vellum. The price at issuance for the present copy was $5.00! Way and Williams used the DeVinne Press often in their books, and is a further testament to their adherence to quality and excellence in printing. Interesting, though Kraus discusses this etching in his book on Way and Williams, it is not given as separate citation. A fine copy of a most scarce ephemeral Way and Williams item.
