[Lefler, Heinrich] "Die Fromme Magd," An Original Watercolor Painting for Sequel to Kling Klang Gloria.Lefler, Heinrich.225 x 390 mm, c. 1910. Superb watercolor illustration for a projected book of German Songs by one of the greatest Austrian illustration artists and pioneers in Jungendstil and decorative illustration of the Vienna Secession, Heinrich Lefler (1863-1919). The painting depicts an elderly woman in mourning in a church pew with two women exiting, and one is looking back to see her. Brightly painted in many colors, including bright blue stairs and floral strapwork border designs in two columns. Matted on a larger sheet, with Windsor & Newton blindstamp at lower left. Signed and titled lower right by Lefler. There are crosshatch marks for proposed reproduction, and the verses depict songs suggesting this was most probably a proposed follow-up for the famed Kling Klang Gloria which included illustrations by Lefler's brother-in-law Joseph Urban.
